After this course the participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the mental health and hidden risks of hearing loss

  • Understand how we can protect ourselves

  • Identify best practices for working with patients and providers with hearing loss

As our world becomes increasingly noisy, protecting our hearing becomes even more apparent. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the hidden risks of not hearing, which can impact their health and well-being. One of the most significant hidden risks of hearing loss is social isolation. People with hearing loss often avoid social situations because they struggle to hear and communicate with others. This can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression, harming their mental health. In addition, hearing loss can also affect job performance, as it can be challenging to communicate with colleagues and patients. Hearing loss can lead to social isolation and depression, as individuals may withdraw from social situations due to difficulty communicating. Untreated hearing loss has also been linked to cognitive decline and an increased risk of dementia. By caring for our hearing, we can improve our overall quality of life and avoid the negative consequences of hearing loss.
