Amber Lovatos, RDH, BSDH, MAADH-"The Latina RDH"

Amber Lovatos, RDH, BSDH, has blazed trails personally and professionally for more than 10 years in the dental health space. Celebrated as her family's first college graduate, Amber holds a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene fromTheUniversity of Texas School of Dentistry. As a clinician, educator, author, mentor, and champion for public health issues, she’s inspired colleagues across the industry with her empowering story that includes her triumph over abuse and lack of oral health access to discovering her identity as “The Latina RDH.” Amber has dedicated her dental hygiene career to organizing community outreachevents throughout the United States and supporting those who need her themost. With a focus on bringing affordable and accessible preventative dental caretocommunities like hers, Amber currently volunteers for a nonprofit dental clinicproviding care to survivors of abuse and human trafficking and low-incomepatientswho are uninsured. As a Latina leader in the dental hygiene community, her workhas majorly consisted of bringing ethical care to her comunidad and providingcarein rural parts of Texas using portable dental equipment including bringing freedental care to children in title-one schools. Amber is also the co-author of Smiles Por Vida a Spanish & Spanglish not for profitchildren’s dental book that highlights the joy of a clean smile. Her recent work includes partnering with Crest & Oral-B on their Closing America’sSmile Gap outreach initiative to serve communities across the US in their effortstobring oral health access, education, and representation. Amber also serves asCrest& Oral-B’s partner and consultant in providing education opportunities, resourceswithin dental communities, screenings to patients during nationwide dental accessevents, helping to deliver products to communities in need, and much more. Through all her incredible work, Amber has been the recipient of numerous national and state awards and academic scholarships, including being namedADEA's 2018 Crest Oral-B Dental Hygienists Pursuing Academic Careers, 2021's, Dimensions of Dental Hygiene Six Dental Hygienists You Want to Know, and2022'sRDH Award of Distinction. Amber is also the recipient of TIME Magazine’s 2023TIME101 honoree award for her dedication to her work. With this recognition, shehopesto continue spreading opportunities to all looking to make an impact in theoral health space.
